Tesla's US Supercharger cable being cut severally, reasons not known

Tesla's Supercharger Cable

In recent weeks, Tesla supercharger stations in the United States have repeatedly cut charging cables, and it is unclear why. Many live pictures appeared on social platforms one after another, arousing the attention of users.

For example, at a supercharging station in Cincinnati, the charging cable on a charging pile was cut, leaving only a few centimeters left on the charging pile. According to the Tesla technician responsible for replacing the damaged cable, there were two instances of cable sabotage there in a matter of days. The damaged charging station was just out of sight of the surveillance cameras.

Images on the social platform Reddit showed many of the city’s Supercharger cables being cut, similar to the situation in Cincinnati. In Los Angeles, however, each damaged charging station still has a long cable left. Obviously, if the spoiler’s goal is to get as much copper as possible, it’s a bit “wasted” to do so.

The reasons behind the vandalism at Supercharger stations are unclear, but the incidents have undoubtedly caused trouble for Tesla owners across the United States. Hopefully, Tesla will act soon to combat this vandalism, at least until the company opens up its network of Supercharger stations to other brands of electric vehicles.
